Nisab is the minimum wealth before zakat applies — about 612g of silver or 87.48g of gold. Enter today's value of that amount (check a current silver/gold price). Silver gives a lower threshold, so more people qualify to give.
This is an estimate to help you plan. For complex situations (property, pensions, mixed assets), please consult a scholar.
Allston Brighton Islamic Center
A place of worship, learning, and community for the Muslim families of Allston, Brighton, and Greater Boston. We welcome everyone to pray, learn, and grow with us.
As-salāmu ʿalaykum — welcome!
Whether you've just embraced Islam or you're exploring it, this community is your family. Take it one step at a time — nobody expects you to learn everything at once.
Islam begins with a single sincere declaration of faith:
Saying this with belief in your heart makes you a Muslim. If you'd like to take your shahada, come to the masjid — the Imam and the whole community would be honored to welcome you.
Salah begins with a simple ritual wash. In order, each part washed three times unless noted:
Wudu lasts until you use the bathroom, pass wind, or fall into deep sleep — then simply repeat it.
Tap through the positions of one rakʿah (unit of prayer). Watch others at the masjid and follow along — that's exactly how everyone learned.

• Learn to pray — start by watching and praying alongside others at the masjid. The Prayer tab shows you the times; the Qibla compass shows the direction.
• Learn Sūrat al-Fātiḥah — the opening chapter recited in every prayer. Find it first in the Quran tab (Surah 1, just 7 verses).
• Take it slowly — Allah knows your heart and your effort. Mistakes while learning are expected and forgiven.
• Come meet us — Jumu'ah (Friday prayer) is the best time to meet the community. Details on the About page.
Manage events, broadcasts, janāzah & masjids on the Events page · questions on Ask the Imam · donation goal & offline gifts on the Donate page.
