This app is provided by the Allston Brighton Islamic Center (“ABIC”) to serve our community. We respect your privacy and collect only what is needed to provide the app’s features.
Information we collect
- Donations: when you donate, we collect your name and email, and the donation amount and type. Card details are entered into a secure form and sent directly to our payment processor (Authorize.net) — we never see or store your full card number.
- Location: if you use the Qibla compass or Mosque Finder, the app reads your device location on your device to calculate direction and distance. Your location is used in the moment and is not stored on our servers.
- Questions to the Imam: any question you submit (and an optional name) is stored so the Imam can answer. You may submit anonymously.
- Membership (ABIC Funeral Program): if you apply for or hold a membership, we collect your name, phone number, email address, home address, household size, and a record of the dues you have been charged and paid. This is the information the masjid needs to run the programme.
- Signing in: members sign in with their phone number. We send a one-time code by text to confirm it is you. Masjid staff sign in with a username and password. We do not store your password — sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication.
- Feedback: anything you send us through the feedback form, along with any contact details you choose to include.
- Notifications: if you allow them, your device is given an anonymous notification token so we can send announcements. It does not identify you personally.
- We do not collect tracking identifiers, sell data, or use advertising.
How we use it
- To process and record your donations and send confirmations.
- To show prayer times, Qibla direction, nearby mosques, events, and answers from the Imam.
- To keep records required for our charitable and accounting purposes.
Services we rely on
The app uses these third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:
- Google Firebase — hosting and database for events, prayer settings, and records.
- Authorize.net — secure payment processing for donations.
- Aladhan API — prayer time calculations.
- AlQuran.cloud — Qur’an text.
- OpenStreetMap — nearby mosque data for the finder.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, the app sends you reminders for prayer times and community announcements. You can turn these off any time in your device settings.
Children’s privacy
The app is intended for general community use and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
How long we keep your information
We keep information only for as long as it serves the purpose it was given for, and no longer. Because different records serve different purposes, they are kept for different lengths of time:
- Membership records (name, phone number, email address, household size, address, dues and payments) are kept for as long as you are a member of the ABIC Funeral Program, and for seven years after your membership ends, so the masjid can answer questions about past contributions. After that they are deleted.
- Donation and payment records (donor name, contact details, amount, fund and transaction reference) are kept for seven years to meet United States nonprofit accounting and tax-reporting obligations, then deleted. We never store card numbers. Card details are entered directly with our payment processor, Authorize.net, and are never sent to or held on our systems.
- Membership applications are kept for two years after they are approved or declined, then deleted.
- Questions sent to the Imam are kept until you ask us to remove them. Answered questions may be shown publicly in the app without your contact details; the contact details you supplied are kept only so the Imam can reply.
- Feedback sent through the app is kept for up to two years, then deleted.
- Notification tokens — the anonymous identifier your device uses to receive notifications — are kept while the app stays installed and are removed automatically when it is uninstalled or the token stops working.
- Administrator activity logs, which record actions taken by masjid staff, are kept for two years for accountability, then deleted.
- Prayer times, events, announcements and khutbah recordings contain no personal information and are kept indefinitely as masjid records.
We may keep information for longer where the law requires it, or where it is needed to resolve a dispute or enforce our agreements. Where we no longer need information but cannot delete it immediately, we stop using it and isolate it until deletion is possible.
Deleting your information
You can ask us to delete the information we hold about you at any time by contacting us below, and we will do so within 30 days — except where we are legally required to keep donation records for tax and accounting purposes, in which case we will tell you what must be kept and why.
Deleting your account removes your membership record and your sign-in. Donation records connected to it are retained for the period described above, as the law requires.
Your choices
- You can deny or revoke location and notification permissions in your device settings at any time.
- To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your donation or question records, contact us below.
